October 13, 2021

The management of Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited on Wednesday, 13th October 2021, received the Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso constituency, Hon. Joesph Akuerteh Tettey and his delegation. The visit is part of his familiarization tour of companies in his constituency.

Welcoming the delegation, the Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power, Chairman Yang Qun thanked the Honouarable for visiting the company and choosing Sunon Asogli as part of his familiarization tour. He said that Sunon Asogli always strives to help the community as part of its corporate social responsibilities. In addition, the company is preparing to expand to include a Phase III unit which will contribute an additional capacity of about 500MW to the national grid. The company sees it as a necessity because Ghana’s demand for electricity just last year increased by 10 to11% which is relatively high as compared to Guangdong province (the biggest economic centre in China) which saw an increase of 6%.

The country, therefore needs to be prepared in advance to avoid a possible shortage of electricity supply in the next three years. He further craved the support of the MP, Hon. Joseph Akuerteh Tettey in the approval of the expansion to include a phase III.

Hon. Joseph Akuerteh Tettey commended Sunon Asogli Power for its positive contribution towards the community and providing jobs to the youth of Kpone.

He promised to support Sunon Asogli in its plans for the phase III project. He also mentioned that he is aware of one of the major problems facing the community which is the abysmal state of the Valco Roundabout-TOR road. He said he is in talks with the Minister for Roads and Highways who says preparatory works have been done and the construction of the road will start soon.

He further thanked the management of the company for receiving him and hopes this is the beginning of a long-standing friendship.

The meeting ended with a tour of the power plant.
