SUNON ASOGLI POWER GHANA CELEBRATES THE 2020 CHINESE SPRING FESTIVAL YEAR OF THE RAT
The Chinese Spring festival is the most important holiday for Chinese as it marks the beginning of a new year. It is a time to honour family and friends and come together to feast. 2020 is the year of the Rat. The rat symbolizes strength, intelligence, shrewdness and alertness.
The Sunon Asogli Chinese Spring festival was held on the 24th of January 2020. It was graced by Togbe Afede XIV, President of the national house of Chiefs, Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of Kpone, Nana Offei Asamani I, Supt Seth Tay, and Mr. Frank Othchere, Manager of SCC-Gridco
The General Manager of Sunon Asogli Power, JIN Zhengyi, opened the festivities with a welcome speech. He thanked all the Chiefs present for their dedication and hard work they have contributed to the success of the plant. He also thanked all Stakeholders for working together to achieve a better energy for Ghana. He entreated all staff and stakeholders to work together to achieve more than we did in the previous year and also resolve most of the challenges we faced. He pointed out that “We need to Seize the day and make the best use of our time, and contribute greatly to the realization of Ghana’s Energy Independence”
The festivities continued with dinner and beautiful performances from some Chinese and Ghanaian staff, as well as guests from Africa World Airline. The Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power, YANG Qun also gave a speech on the achievements of the company in the previous year and the future of the company. He stated that “There was a tremendous increase in our generation with the year ending at 2.7TWh. We broke the record in July by producing the highest ever in the history of the company. And we continued to produce more throughout the year. This is not just an achievement for the company but for us all. It was through our hard work and our diligence that we were able to achieve this. We also won the award as the fastest growing company in the year and the 4th best company in the competitive Ghana Club 100 awards”. He mentioned that the company will continue to see progress and the happiness of the staff is also a priority as the company is improving the living and working conditions of staff and also improving security. With respect to the future of the company, he said “It is going to be a challenging year for us. Aside all the projects we are starting in the company, I am honoured to inform you all that we have other projects outside the company. We are looking at taking on the Takoradi T3 power plant and also collaborating with VRA on a number of projects which we are still working on. We have more plans for this year and as this is the year of the Rat, we need to have the spirit of the rat and be courageous to start new projects. This is the year of founding something and evolving”. He ended his speech by thanking staff for their hard work, passion, and commitment to seeing the Power Plant succeed.
The festivities ended with some staff receiving awards for Most Outstanding staff, Safety Awards and the China- Ghana Relationship Award.
