The Asogli Energy Cup was introduced by Sunon Asogli Power (Gh) Ltd. The purpose of the games was to strengthen and deepen the relationship between the companies in Ghana’s energy sector. This initiative will facilitate efficiency and rapid growth in the energy sector of Ghana. The maiden edition of the 2019 Asogli energy cup was dubbed “Together we can do more and do it well”.
The first edition of the Asogli Energy Cup was held on December 7, 2019 and involved teams from Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAGPCo), Volta River Authority (VRA), and Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Ltd (SAPP), of which the overall winner of the competition was decided after eight hours of action-packed games.
Before the kick-off, acknowledgement was given to the leaders from the various invited companies, some of who included; the director of system operation for GRIDCO- Mr. Mark Baah (GRIDCo), General Manager for WAGPCo- Mr. Graig, Service Manager for WAGPCo- Mr. Kwesi Agyeman Prempeh, Executive Secretary of VRA- Madam Eugenia Lamptey and management of Sunon Asogli Power led by the General manager Mr. Kofi Kim
The first round of matches commenced at 9am, where WAGPCo played against VRA. After one hour, WAGPCo lost to VRA with a score line of 2:0, while the host team SAPP won with 2-1 score line against GRIDCo in the first round of the game after an hour struggle. The second round started right after lunch and led to a win of the third position by WAGPCo against GRIDCo and the ultimate first and second game was won by SAPP against VRA after a very interesting game, VRA came 2nd in position and the host team Sunon Asogli Power had the first position.
During the event, we enjoyed music from a band and some local drinks. After the event, there were gift presentations to all teams.
