While the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo was on a state visit to China attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)among other important meetings; The Honourable Minister of Energy, Mr. Peter Amewu on September 4, 2018, led a high powered delegation including Deputy Minister of Energy Mr. William Owuraku, CEO of Ghana Gas Dr. Ben Asante, and some executives of the ENI Energy Company to Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited as part of a familiarization tour of power producers in the industry; especially IPPs.
Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power, Mr. Li Xiaohai in briefing the delegation lauded the Energy Minister’s initiative of personally interacting with the IPPs. He also highlighted the challenges the delay and irregular supply of gas from Nigeria is having on the operations of the power plant. Further, he expressed concern about the effect of the unfavourable pricing regime for gas on the efficient running of the company.
Additionally, he reiterated the financial strain the company has had to endure and is currently going through due to irregular payments from the Electricity Company of Ghana. He implored the Honourable Energy Minister to use his capable office to expedite action on the delayed payments to enable the company run its stalled financial engine both in Ghana and China.
The Energy Minister and his delegation including the media took a tour of the plant after the brief meeting.
