Accelerate Action, Powering the Future: Sunon Asogli Power Celebrates International Women’s Day

Sunon Asogli Power Plant marked International Women’s Day with a vibrant celebration honouring the remarkable contributions of women in the organisation. The event, filled with joy and elegance, saw attendees dressed in colourful African prints. It was graced by key executives, including Chairman Yang, General Manager Mr. Kwame Wang, Deputy General Managers Mr. Fish Lin, and Mr. Jiang Fei, as well as Operations Manager Mr. Kofi and Local HR/Admin Manager Mr. Bernard Bortei.
Mrs. Doris Dzifa Sarfo Agordzo, Chairperson of the Sunon Asogli Power Women’s Association, delivered the welcome address, reaffirming Sunon Asogli Power’s commitment to empowering women within the organisation. She highlighted the significant strides women have made in overcoming barriers and showcasing their leadership, skills, and talents. Emphasising that the journey toward gender equality is ongoing, she underscored the crucial role of support, unity, and equity in sustaining progress.


Mr. Bernard Bortei expressed appreciation for the invaluable contributions of women at Sunon Asogli Power, recognising their role in making the plant one of the best in the country. He encouraged them to keep striving for excellence and to take their rightful place in society.
General Manager Mr. Kwame Wang commended the women for their resilience and urged them to be trailblazers. He also assured them of more opportunities for women at the plant in the coming years.
Chairman Yang acknowledged the significance of Ghana’s first female Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as a symbol of women’s empowerment in the country. He reiterated Sunon Asogli Power’s commitment to supporting women in engineering and STEM education, as pledged during the visit of Shenzhen Energy Group’s Chairman to Ghana and the Ghanaian Presidency in January 2025.
As part of the celebration, Mrs. Vyodean Ama Quansah, Senior Chemical Engineer, Miss Lydia Sablah, Housekeeping Supervisor, and Miss Han Mengya, Administrative Supervisor received special recognition and gift presentations for their outstanding contributions. Additionally, all 76 women present were honoured with individual gifts in appreciation of their dedication to the company’s success.
The event was a testament to Sunon Asogli Power’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity, recognising the achievements of women, and promoting gender equality within the organisation.
