International Women’s Day 2023 – Embracing Change

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also serves as a rallying cry for greater gender equality. Worldwide, significant activity is observed as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or to rally for women’s equality.

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8th, is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women’s achievements, educate and promote awareness for women’s equality, and call for positive change in women’s advancement.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity. Equity is more than a nice-to-have; it’s a must-have, and it’s not just something we say. It’s not just something we write about; it’s something we need to think about, understand, and embrace; it’s something we believe in wholeheartedly. Equity means creating a world free of bias, discrimination, and stereotypes. A world in which diversity is celebrated and valued.

The United Nations observes International Women’s Day to recognize and celebrate women and girls who advocate for or promote the advancement of transformative technology and digital education. IWD 2023 will look into the effect of the digital gender gap on growing economic and social inequalities.

Equity is defined as providing everyone with what they need to succeed. It does not give everyone the same thing. If everyone is given the same thing in the hopes that it will make everyone equal, it assumes that everyone started out in the same place, which can be vastly incorrect because no two people are the same.

Equity recognizes that people do not begin their lives with the same goals. Inequity affects many people, but the most vulnerable communities are women, people of color, people with disabilities, and the economically disadvantaged.

The goal of equity is to change the fundamental and systemic barriers that prevent people from blooming. Equity is a long-term and sustainable solution to the problem of imbalanced social systems.

Our goal is to inform friends, family, colleagues, and the community about the importance of equity. If you believe in creating a more equal and inclusive world, you will understand the importance of the world better understanding the distinction between equity and equality.

Within our own spheres, each of us can actively support and embrace equity.

Let’s #EmbraceEquity together
