Production & Safety

The unit has a high efficiency and low on-grid electricity price, which is high in the order of Ghana Power Grid Corporation. The power generation thermal efficiency of the company’s first-phase unit is 41.5%, whilst the power generation thermal efficiency of the second phase is 52%. As compared to the other IPPs in Ghana, the efficiency of the second-phase unit ranks top.

Among the 11 thermal power plants in Ghana, SAPL has a long-term stable combined cycle system.

Safety

The company has introduced international management systems, including 7S and NOSA to the plant and maintained an extraordinary safety record. There has been no personal injury and no accidents since the establishment of the company.

One of our core values as a company is to ensure the safety of all staff. We are committed to promoting a responsible Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) culture and our operation principle of Safety first. We adhere to the strictest safety and environmental standards. The company set up the fire department as part of the HSE department to ensure all future fires are prevented and ensure staff adhere to all safety measures. The HSE department has shown great dedication to their duties and has no record of casualty. As part of the company culture, we organise annual safety activities in the month of July to train and re-train staff in fire and safety measures. Various fire drills and activities are also organised to ensure staff are prepared for all emergencies. The month of November however, is recognised as the Fire Safety month.

Sunon Asogli Power has constructed a fire station to aid the fire brigade in their daily work. It is the official office and fire station of Sunon Asogli Power fire brigade. It has been stocked with the needed fire and office equipment that will help the fire brigade in their daily activities.
