Sunon Asogli Power hosted its inaugural awards ceremony to recognize employees who excelled in 2024 through diligence, professionalism, and dedication to the company’s advancement. The event was held on Tuesday, 9th September 2025.
The Head of Local Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Bernard Borketey, opened the ceremony with a speech on the purpose of the gathering. He reminded staff that “an organization that fails to recognize the dedication and contributions of its people cannot truly thrive.” He explained that the purpose of the awards is to recognize, celebrate, and honor the dedication, professionalism, and outstanding performance of our Ghanaian employees. He further added that the awards were established to motivate staff and commend their significant contributions. He emphasized that the selection process was open, transparent, and fair, with each department nominating staff. An evaluation committee was set up to evaluate the nominated employees and finalise the award recipients.
The ceremony continued with remarks from Chairman Mr. Kwame Wang. He stressed that the awards aim to motivate local staff and acknowledge their crucial contributions to the company. He praised awardees for embracing their responsibilities with professionalism, creativity, and drive. He also noted the company’s progress with the Phase III project and reaffirmed headquarters’ commitment to future expansion in Ghana.
A total of 15 employees were recognized. Ten staff, representing at least one from each department, were recognized for their teamwork and contribution to the company’s vision. They each received a cash award and an honorary certificate. In addition, four employees, namely Bernard Borketey, Eugene Borquaye, Richard Owusu-Appiah, and Prince Tache-Nkugnami, earned the Bronze Award, which carried a cash prize and a plaque in their honour. The Gold Award went to Dr. Elikplim Apetorgbor, who also received a cash award and a plaque in his honour for his exceptional leadership, unwavering democracy, strengthening the company’s financial stability, and safeguarding its role in powering Ghana’s growth.
