In a significant milestone toward enhancing Ghana’s energy capacity, Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the traditional and opinion leaders of selected towns in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region to develop 100 MW Wind power generation project. The MoU was signed on March 24, 2025, at a ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including the leadership of Sunon Asogli Power, representatives of the West Africa Development Unit (WADU), and the chiefs and elders of the respective towns in the Ada West District.
The proposed 100 MW Wind power project will be constructed within the Ada West District and is expected to be critical in addressing Ghana’s growing energy needs. The project aligns with the government’s broader strategy in diversifying the country’s energy mix while contributing to Ghana’s renewable Energy agenda.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Wang Jinxiao, General Manager of Sunon Asogli Power expressed his gratitude to the chiefs and community leaders for their cooperation and commitment to the project. He emphasized that the project would not only increase Ghana’s energy capacity but also create job opportunities and foster local economic development.
Mr. Lu Junzhang, Deputy General Manager of WADU, highlighted Sunon Asogli Power’s technical capabilities and experience, noting that the company’s proven track record in power generation would ensure the successful completion and operation of the project.
The signing of this MoU marks a major step towards the development of the first ever wind power project in Ghana’s energy sector. Sunon Asogli Power’s expertise, coupled with the support of the traditional authorities and local communities, is expected to drive the successful execution of the 100MW Wind power project. This collaboration underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing Ghana’s energy goals and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
