In a bold step toward prioritising safety, Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Company Limited conducted a dynamic emergency drill simulating a fire at the GPEC container office on November 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m to 10:41 a.m. This 41-minute exercise embodied our core principle which is “Prevention First, Combined with Fire-Fighting”. This principle aims at sharpening employee skills in hazard detection, initial response, and swift evacuation while validating our emergency command systems.
The drill used controlled smoke canisters to create a realistic early-stage fire, involving more than 52 participants from all departments and partner companies. Key leaders such as Emergency Management Committee Chairman Wang Jinxiao, General Manager Zhang Jinsong, and Deputy General Managers Hu Shicai, Jiang Fei, and Lin Yu took part. Teams led by HSE Director Sun Yu, chemical engineer Xiao Zhibin, and staff from Operations, Logistics, Maintenance, and Tuoqi Company worked closely together.
The drill began at 10:00 a.m. when the commander gave the alert. At 10:09 a.m., smoke filled the container. Technical checks took place at 10:13 a.m., and the on-site fire brigade arrived at 10:22 a.m. with respirators and hoses. Leaders set up a command post at 10:26 a.m., established warning zones at 10:28 a.m., inspected sources at 10:29 a.m., and cooled the area at 10:30 a.m. At 10:36 a.m., a simulated injured firefighter added realism to the exercise, leading to quick coordination and medical outreach to the International Maritime Hospital at 10:39 a.m.

The results were outstanding, with the fire brigade responding in just 13 minutes and all core personnel on-site within 20 minutes, exceeding contingency plan benchmarks. All teams executed their roles flawlessly, from protective gear deployment to interdepartmental synergy, heightening awareness of chemical risks and complex scenarios.
Later that afternoon, the Fire Brigade carried out a live firefighting skills demonstration, showcasing strength, agility, hose deployment techniques, and rescue operations inside a smoke simulation chamber. Their performance highlighted a high level of readiness, earning commendation from company leadership.

This comprehensive drill underscores Sunon Asogli Power’s ongoing commitment to protecting its people, assets, and operational continuity while contributing to a safer community for Ghana.
