Sunon Asogli Power has once again earned recognition by receiving the Community Engagement Award at the AETC Gala Dinner and Awards Night 2026. The event was held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on 19th May 2026. The award recognized the company’s meaningful collaboration with local communities to create shared value and address social impacts. The evening was graced by the founder of AETC, Ms. Emelia Akumah, Mrs. Marietta Brew Appiah who represented the Chief of Staff; the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo; and delegates from organisations across the continent.

Receiving the award on behalf of the company, Chairman Kwame Wang expressed gratitude to the organizers for recognising Sunon Asogli Power with the award. He noted that the company is deeply attentive to its communities and the needs of the people it serves, adding that the recognition affirms the values that Sunon Asogli Power has built its work upon.

The AETC is a three-day event that focuses on accelerating the continent’s energy transformation and deepening intra-African trade through technology, sustainability, and climate action. On the opening day, the keynote address was given by the founder of AETC, Ms. Emelia Akumah. She described this year’s conference theme, “From Borders to Bridges: Driving Intra-African Trade & Development through Energy & Technology Services,” as a call to action, an urgent reminder that the barriers of yesterday must become the conduits of tomorrow. Other dignitaries present were the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, and the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor.

Representing His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama at the conference, Hon. Julius Debrah challenged African leaders and regional bodies to eliminate the obstacles that continue to slow down cross-border energy trade and infrastructure growth. He revealed the government’s plans to deploy over 1000 MW of emergency power to stabilize Ghana’s energy sector and close the immediate electricity gap.

Against this backdrop, independent power producers continue to play a critical role in supporting national and regional energy security. In line with Ghana’s vision for a resilient and sustainable energy future, Sunon Asogli Power is advancing plans for its Phase III expansion project, which is expected to add 850MW of generation capacity. The company is also developing a 200MW solar power plant in Northern Ghana to supply clean energy directly into the national grid and support the country’s transition toward a more diversified energy mix.

With 560MW currently on the national grid, a growing renewable energy portfolio, and major expansion projects underway, Sunon Asogli Power continues to strengthen its position as a key partner in Ghana’s energy development. Beyond power generation, the company’s recognition at AETC 2026 reflects its broader commitment to community development, sustainability, and building long-term value for both Ghana and the African energy sector.
